Radiation danger
THERE'S A lot of talk about Yucca Mountain being reopened by the president and the nuclear fallout possibility and the possibility of radiation seeping into the ground. What I would suggest is to get a map of Nevada and look at the bottom right-hand corner. There's a space there with a funny marking that indicates there's still nuclear radiation from our testing of nuclear power and weapons in Nevada. This speaks very plainly to the president. If the man wants to do this, he needs to watch out.
Clean up the town
I JUST read your article about the federal building parking. If that's all the Southeast Missourian has to worry about, there must be something wrong. If the parking barriers are such an eyesore, then Cape is an eyesore. They need to clean the town up.
Decency matters
WHEN MOST folks really find out what liberalism really is all about, it doesn't sound so good except to the off-the-wall crowd with little or no morals. That's why more conservative talk shows are more popular, even in liberal areas. Trying to get sponsors for liberal radio and TV is almost impossible. Liberal talk shows have to be paired with a conservative to stay on the air. Many Democrats support the liberal whine, not knowing what their stand is on any issue. When a tragedy or national emergency or disaster happens to our country, liberalism is forgotten because morals and decency and God's values do matter to most people.
Hard to understand
A LOT of things are going on today that maybe I'm a little simple-minded on. When Bill Clinton and Al Gore were in office, we had a surplus. Since George Bush and Dick Cheney took office, we have a deficit. John Walker Lindh was arrested for taking up arms against America. But Enron's execs who stole your father's retirement are walking around free. Where's Ken Starr when we need him?
Issue kept in dark
I SEE the Southeast Missourian is still very prejudiced and is one-sided in its news. There are lots of Speak Out comments complimenting the fact that the River Campus has been upheld by the Missouri Supreme Court. I've called to the paper several times, not objecting to the River Campus but objecting to the lie the voters heard when we were told before the election that both the tax and the bond issue had to pass or neither would go into effect. I even wrote the lawyers, the mayor and the city council complaining that they had not brought this issue to light.
They're both wrong
I WANT to say "Amen!" to the retired state trooper explaining driving in the left lane. What he was saying is that the people who speed in the left lane or drive slow in the left lane are like the Democrats and the Republicans I hear bad-mouthing each other. You're both wrong. I'm of the opinion that driving tests should be given more often, particularly when I see left and right turns onto a multilane road into the wrong lane.
Liberal worship
I APPRECIATE Bill Matzat's informing us that the Ministerial Alliance isn't sponsoring Jerry Falwell's trip to Cape Girardeau. Those churches who are promoting his visit should be ashamed. It is difficult to understand how Falwell and other conservatives can attack liberal programs -- aid to the poor, the elderly, the working class -- and still profess to worshipping the most liberal individual ever to walk the earth.
Forced to the left
I'VE READ all of the comments about people driving in the left lane. I have no problem with that. I know you're supposed to drive in the right lane. The problem is when I'm on highways like Kingshighway and William and I have to make a left turn, I cannot get over because people will not let me pull over to the left lane to make a left turn. So if I have to make a left turn, I will drive in the left lane, fast or slow.
Street racing
THIS IS to everyone who drives the speed limit. Make sure you drive in the right lane so all of the Nascar drivers can speed. I hope the law's around to see them when they do it.
Bad decision
THE MISSOURI Supreme Court, like our U.S. Supreme Court in reversing a solid decision, makes voters lose and all taxpayers lose.
