Fix the lights
I WOULD like for the newly installed lights at Silver Springs Road and Bloomfield Road to be fixed. I've had to wait up to two full minutes for a green light when there was no cross-traffic. Was the investment of lights worth a little less confusion with the stop signs?
Nearby sociopaths
THE SERIAL killer Timothy Krajcir is not difficult to understand. He is your garden-variety anti-social personality. He lacks the ability to experience guilt, shame or empathy. These people are not stupid. They're manipulative and hard to identify. For more information, read "The Sociopath Next Door."
Poorly written
AFTER RECEIVING so many e-mails about "The Golden Compass" I decided to read the books before letting my children watch the movie. For once the social police are right. What a bunch of garbage. And putting the anti-God propaganda aside, it was some of the most poorly written fantasy writing I've had the displeasure to read in a long time. The writer ripped off every story line he could find and took my money with it. Pass.
Cheaper health care
I HAVE talked with people from other countries where they are covered under a national health-care plan. This is not free health care. Every citizen in those countries have to pay in to the plan at a much lower affordable price then what we are paying our insurance companies here in America. It is affordable, and you receive good care according to the people I have talked too. Why can't we do the same thing? Because the medical and drug professions don't want it here. It would end the overpricing of the care they are currently providing.
Leafy trail
THE STREET sweeper spread leaves all over the street and left a trail of leaves behind it. This is a waste of time and manpower.

Solving murders
THE POLICE department should be congratulated for solving five murders. This was a terrific job, and it means a lot to the town.
Real problems
IT AMAZES me that anyone is going after athletes for taking steroids. This has gone on for years. No one cares. We have real problems in this country, but no one wants to tackle them. Politicians want headlines, but mainstream Americans want action on problems such as immigration, poverty, our rights being taken away and a host of other things.
Special party
A HUGE thank you to the Cape Girardeau Eagles on Spring Street for providing such a wonderful Christmas party for the special-needs folks in our area. The warm welcome, delicious food, storyteller, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, Christmas presents for all of the clients and the music for dancing -- everything was perfect. Thank you and merry Christmas to you and your families.
Try dinner-theater
REALISTICALLY, FEW would come if the Broadway Theater were restored downtown. At least the Marquette Tower is serving a useful purpose. It's impractical to keep up these old theaters. Something this area doesn't have is a dinner musical theater. That would be a new concept for this area, I think it could draw people.
Heartbreaking list
AS I read the list of baseball players using steroids, my heart breaks for those who gave their all and did it the right way and watched as others took the honors. This goes to the top. I believe this is only the tip of the iceberg as to how many knew and had their heads hidden in the sand.
