Thankful bell ringer

I want to share a kindness with all of you. Last Wednesday night I was a volunteer Salvation Army bell ringer at the Cape Girardeau K-Mart store. I had always admired the folks who did this type of thing, but I’d never mustered up the willpower to do it myself. Thanks to a friend with the Missouri Alumni Association, I got recruited to do just that. While I was thankful for the many people who donated to this worthy cause and who stopped to wish me a Merry Christmas, the biggest impact was the couple who saw me shivering in the cold and trying to warm my hands. They went inside, bought a pair of Cardinal gloves and gave them to me while still putting money in the kettle. Wow. And for those of you who haven’t yet volunteered to ring the bell for the Army, you are missing out on a very good feeling. Merry Christmas to all, and especially to that special couple.
