THE River City Workers of the Blind were in the Southeast homecoming parade walking down Broadway with our white canes and a little float in there with the different devices that blind people can use on the side of our picture. We were really well-received. Everybody was clapping and cheering for us, and we were just so delighted to see that the people actually cared that we have something like this in Cape Girardeau for blind people.
CONSERVATIVE columnist George Will's takedown of Mitt Romney as a serial flip-flopper was worse than any attack on President Obama coming from David Limbaugh. Once Romney gets the nomination, I guess the best Limbaugh will be able to muster is that at least he's not Obama, an argument most will find ineffective and eventually quite tiresome.
I'M tired of hearing the Democrats complain about the Republicans blocking President Obama's jobs bill and all of his other worthless ideas. They act as if this is somehow un-American. Actually it is very American. The new Republican majority in the House of Representatives was elected in a historic election that was a direct rebuke of Obama's misguided and dangerous policies. These new representatives were sent to Washington by a majority of the American public who were fed up with what Obama and the Democrats were doing to America.
I live in an area heavily populated by deer. Part of the reason we love the wooded area where we live is because we enjoy the animal population, including the deer and wild turkeys. Those of you who advocate bow hunting as humane for the starving deer can relax; I assure you, the deer are not starving. The best solution for keeping the deer from eating your vegetables and flowers is to put a fence of chicken wire around your garden. Bow hunting in city limits will not prevent the deer from eating vegetables in gardens. Those of you who are truly concerned about starving deer can purchase deer food and scatter it throughout your property.
AFTER months of looking for a job I finally found one, but it is part time, 20 hours a week or less. I feel blessed to have found it since my U.S. government reminds me of the sinking Titanic. The thing that gets me is the Division of Family Services is demanding I work at least 30 hours or more a week. I told them I have no control over my work schedule. It is what the company's labor budget can afford. Now DFS is drowning me in paperwork and running me from one government office to another to "help" me find full-time work. I feel like I now have a full-time job running in circles for these government programs and getting nowhere.
