I make several trips a day through the roundabout at Mt. Auburn and Lexington. I just want the city and MoDOT to know it's a great improvement over what we had. It's much safer. The traffic flow is good. The only thing, there's a few people who still have problems knowing what to do once they get in the roundabout, but when they get that straightened out and learn how to use it, it is really going to be an asset to everybody. I want to thank the city and MoDOT for improving that intersection like they did.
I don't know what food stamps are like here in Missouri. I've always been fortunate that I've never had to worry about them. But the thing is that no one wants to see old people deprived. Surely $10 is not what an actual old person would get who is applying for food stamps. I know that in another state, my brother was so excited because he lived with his daughter who had a child out of wedlock, he was so excited when the food stamps got raised. You would have thought he'd won the lotto. He was like, "You'll never believe how much we're getting now." That's when I realized that something's wrong with the system.
I do appreciate Speak Out because how do you get this information out there. I got my letter today in regards to my health insurance. Currently I have Blue Cross Blue Shield. It runs $329 a month. I got my letter saying the same coverage under the Obamacare plan was $551, that if I wanted to keep my current premium amount of $329, not only would I lose some of my basic health care check up stuff, that I would have to raise my deductible from $1,500 to $3,000. At one point, the president told me it was going to be cheaper. I'm just looking to know what I'm missing. How come it's not cheaper?
When the road crew completed construction on the new roundabout and the stretch of road between it and Abbey Road, they left the old striping, partially removed by concrete blasting but still visible, and painted new striping as well. During the day, this is unattractive and sloppy looking, but after dark, especially during rain when the roads are wet, it is quite hazardous. In the dark, both the old and new striping reflect in the headlights, and it's hard to distinguish which is which. I travel this stretch daily, but have had several instances when momentarily, I couldn't distinguish where the lanes were. This was an expensive project to leave it in this condition. I guess time will tell if enough people have accidents along there for any action to be taken.
This newspaper was very careful not to compare the Cape Girardeau schools and the Jackson schools, and for that matter, Notre Dame school. I believe about a week ago, you published an article that Cape schools were slightly below state standards on average tests. Today you publish an article that Jackson is slightly above the state average on standardized tests. I think that comparison means that Jackson schools are slightly above Cape schools. What's the deal? What is the cause?
Many thanks to a Speak Out caller who went to great lengths to statistically verify that President Obama has halved the federal budget.
