KUDOS to the River Campus students who put on "Into the Woods." Excellent job. You deserved a standing ovation, but frankly I would have been too embarrassed to stand up by myself. But I think those in the first five or six rows should have been standing up and applauding because it was just a great job. I loved the enthusiasm.
Great photo
THE action photo of the volleyball girls in Wednesday's Southeast Missourian was really great. Volleyball really looks fun. Great job, Laura.
Animal shelter
YEAH for the Bollinger County Stray Project Float in the Marble Hill parade on Oct. 1. Thank You for taking the time to care for the dogs who are surrendered or just plain "throw throwaways."
IRA contributions
I'M very happy that the Speak Out contributor was able to put $20 a week in an IRA. But some of us need every dime of every paycheck for housing, food and medicine.
Sullivan column
THE White House at least owes him a response. On two occasions now President Obama's resignation has been solicited by Joe Sullivan.
Promotion etiquette
WHEN a company tells an employee he is getting a promotion, they should not tell him he has it then the next day tell him they gave it to someone who put their name in the last minute. You already offered the position to someone and should keep your word.
Flu season
SINCE it is cold and flu season, and many of us do not want germs in public places of enjoyment, please cover your mouths and bring Kleenex. This is a message to adults. You can also bring the hand sanitizer for a purchase price of 99 cents. Vitamins can also help you "once a day."
Retirement savings
WOW. That's a rarity. A retiree extolled the virtues of an IRA over Social Security as a retirement option. I guess he was one of the few whose IRA wasn't wiped out by the 2008 financial meltdown. Thank goodness for Social Security.
Fast motorcycles
I like the bumper stickers that say, "Start seeing motorcycles." Maybe I'll start seeing them when they slow down. As fast as many of them go, I just hope they see me.
Trickey lawsuit
KUDOS to Jim Trickey for winning his lawsuit against Kaman Industrial on the basis of age discrimination. Perhaps this will serve as a wake-up call for those anxious to rid themselves of often their most successful employees, the older and wiser ones.
Central football
CAN somebody please tell me what radio station the Central High School football games are played on? I would really appreciate it.
