CAPE Girardeau's police officers have shown a tremendous lack of common sense by endorsing the casino effort. Their statement said they hoped the city would hire more police officers if the casino were to come to Cape Girardeau. This is the same organization that has publicly accused the city of not keeping promises in the past, and they think this time they can trust the city?
IS a gambling casino consistent with our town's conservative values? No city leaders have proposed using the supposed $3 million in property tax revenue the casino would bring to Cape Girardeau to reduce the individual tax burden on the city's residents. Instead, they are salivating over how they will spend the money.
APPARENTLY racism is still taking place in this country. A taxpayer funded organization, NPR, just fired their one and only African American voice on the radio.
WHY do Democrats and Independents continue to give money to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce? All they do is take your money and give it to the GOP.
A yes vote for Prop. B is a vote for basic kindness for dogs. With the amount of animals for free in the paper, it is obvious there are not enough homes for the dogs. Puppy mills are breeding dogs for money, not for the love of a specific type of dog. Thus, they treat the dogs as a commodity, not as the living and feeling creature that they are. Prop. B may not be perfect, but it is a start to easing the severe cruelty suffered by too many enslaved dogs.
WHY are people still harping about widening Bloomfield Road? The fall colors are beautiful. Apparently proponents are only interested in getting from place to place faster.
OF course Isle of Capri thinks Cape Girardeau would be the best site for a Missouri casino. Cape Girardeau is a beautiful city with wonderful people, homes and beautiful churches. Cape Girardeau is the prettiest girl at the dance. Let's keep her this way.
BRAD Hollerbach is wrong. The speak out comments against the casino are not an orchestrated effort. Individuals are expressing their opinions based upon their standards.
THERE'S nothing wrong with Broadway. In fact, Broadway has some of the more interesting businesses in Cape Girardeau. The street is so nice that they located a children's museum there. Broadway is a vital part of our city. We don't need a casino and the problems it'll bring.
SOUTHEAST Missouri State has completely forgot about their employees. They think more of their buildings than they do of their people. Now they're going to spend millions of dollars on a building that's a hundred years old. For a school that tells you they don't have any money, they sure do a lot of spending.
There has been a lot of talk about people with gambling addictions, but not one time have I heard anything about alcoholics. The casino will have alcohol, but so do bars and many restaurants. Lets take care of all addictions, not just one. I would rather take my chances with a gambler behind the wheel of a car than a drunk.
