Radical influence

THANK YOU, David Limbaugh, for your detailed article outlining all the reasons Barack Obama should not be the president of our country. I would add, as an educator, that I am greatly concerned about Obama's comments about a "new generation of teachers." Considering his ties with William Ayers, who is hailed by the Obama camp as a valued educator, I would hate to see the door open to such radical influence in our public schools.

A bit of sugar

CASINOS ARE handing out candy for children. Proposition A on the November ballot is suspect because it is being backed by the casinos. It is not difficult to see the casinos' strategy. They bundle a proposition for gambling with something that sounds good: more education money for children. The problem is the deprivation of children due to parents who have gambled away funds that should be used for children's food, clothing and school supplies. Then, there is the strain gambling places on marriages when needed money is squandered away. A little bit of sugar makes the quack medicine go down easier.

One nation

I HAVE been saddened by how people I once respected are calling other people negative names during this election year. They are calling other people names such as anti-American, unpatriotic, terrorists, liberal, socialist, Jewish, Muslim, non-Christian, racists and rednecks. When you hear someone else call someone a name in a negative way, remember our country's motto, "E pluribus unum." Out of many, one. This motto reminds us that out of many backgrounds and religions comes one people united as a nation. This is what binds us together as Americans. I believe that the foundation of our nation's unity is respect for all people.
