THE Southeast production of "Once on This Island" was amazing. Kudos to the Southeast theater department and all the actors. They did a fabulous job. I think it's wrong the city of Cape Girardeau is charging so much for admission into the water park. If they're making a profit of over $300,000 a year after being open less than 90 days, then they need to cut the ticket price in half...

Great performance

Water park

I think it's wrong the city of Cape Girardeau is charging so much for admission into the water park. If they're making a profit of over $300,000 a year after being open less than 90 days, then they need to cut the ticket price in half.

Obama campaigning

PRESIDENT Obama is traveling around the country at the taxpayers' expense to campaign for Democrat candidates. How much is that costing us each trip? How many Social Security recipients could gain a 3 percent raise if all that money was directed to the Social Security Trust Fund?

Celebrate corn

IF we lived in Switzerland and the value of the Swiss watches went up, we would be celebrating. If we lived in Saudi Arabia and the price of oil went up, we'd be celebrating. We live in the United States and export corn. When the price of corn goes up, we should celebrate.

State of the economy

I still remember former president George W. Bush standing behind the podium at his last State of the Union address. His exact words were, "The economy is fundamentally sound." Where were all the complaining Republicans then?

Endorsements

HAVE you noticed that everyone endorsed by President Obama and former president Clinton loses?

Casino will not help

I can't imagine that Cape Girardeau would really benefit from a casino. I strongly agree with Dr. Wulfers' editorial on gambling. I can only see Cape Girardeau going downhill if a casino locates here.

Persimmons

THERE was a nice article in the Southeast Missourian about eating persimmons. To best gather the persimmons, you should clean up everything underneath the tree, rake up all the leaves, rake up all the fruit that's laying on the ground and get rid of all the junk that's laying underneath the tree. Then pick up the fruit in the morning that fell during the previous night.

Great symphony

WOW. The Southeast Symphony did a great job at the recent concert at the River Campus. Dr. Edgerton was her energetic self as usual. The orchestra sounded super and well rehearsed. And guest pianist Jack Gibbons wowed us all. Thanks to all those involved.

No raise

SOUTHEAST Missouri State has not given its employees a raise in over two years, and now they're wanting to cut employee benefits.

Casino threat

I have watched the downtown Cape Girardeau area really shape up over the last few years. It's so nice to finally see people strolling along the street and sitting on the benches visiting with each other. But now, with the threat of the casino coming to Cape Girardeau, I fear our inviting downtown area will become a thing of the past.

Thanks, Optimist Club

I see that the Optimist Club has given the city of Cape Girardeau money to build a nice, new shelter at Dennis Scivally Park. I think that's great. The old shelter was in bad shape. Thank you, Optimist Club.

Wild children

CHILDREN in the Independence Street and West End Boulevard part of Cape Girardeau are running wild, breaking windows, vandalizing cars, throwing rocks and egging. It needs to stop.

Miners rescued

I was awe-struck by the determination of the Chilean miners and those involved in their rescue. What a wonderful world we live in to have people constantly working to rescue all 33 miners, after 69 days, so far under ground. God bless them all.
