Thank you, Johannes Gutenberg! Every time I pick up a copy of the Southeast Missourian I am reminded that ever since the wheel, humankind's most important invention has been and remains the printing press.
I would rather deal with snow on the ground for a day or two than the salt that MoDOT sprays down every time it gets cold outside. Aside from the environmental effects and effects on our vehicles, it is very costly to taxpayers. This latest round with the beet/salt mixture is ridiculous. The stuff is very sticky and my driveway and garage are covered in it.
Is this story ironic or what? The global warming scientists were brought back to safety by rescuers who used internal combustion engines powered by fossil fuels.
We can all relax and quit worrying about the unemployment situation. President Obama is going to focus on job creation in 2014. Wonder why he hasn't thought to focus on that problem during the first five years of his presidency? He pays lip service to the issue, just as he pays lip service to every issue, but the bottom line is that he uses the large group of unemployed people as a political tool. Right now he is championing the continuance of their benefits, all to make himself look good, when in reality, it is his administration's policies that keep them unemployed. And, in 2014, the economy will face the onslaught of the Obama-supported increase in the minimum wage, plus the burden of the implementation of Obamacare.
