The greatest

THERE'S another good comment by Oliver Thomas of USA Today on the Opinion page of the Southeast Missourian commending the greatest generation again. "It's time to steal a play from members of the World War II generation. Those people took individual responsibility seriously. They were restrained in their speech and frugal with their money. And, they were determined to put more back in the world than they took out -- especially when it came to their children. They understood that the greatest self-actualization (my generation's obsession) came not through titillating their nerve endings but through service to others, whether on the battlefield or in their communities. Neither America's problems nor the world's are insurmountable if we can follow their example." Amen. The greatest generation really was the greatest.

Worth trying

WHEN you think about, it would difficult for all of us to be as perfect as Jesus. But we can try to approach the light the best we can.

Ticketing issue

WHY is it that Cape Girardeau police will ticket a homeowner but not a landlord for having a vehicle on the property when in both such cases the vehicle is not owned by the homeowner or the landlord? I'm sure if the owner of such vehicle were ticketed, the owner, having to pay all fines, would remove the vehicle immediately. Surely the police can trace who actually owns the vehicle.

Safer road

THIS is in regard to all the controversy about widening Bloomfield Road. I use that road often and can't see where taking out a few trees and widening the road a little would take very much away from the beauty of it. It would sure make it a lot safer.

Gitmo prisoners

I'M confused. Aren't the men being held in Gitmo prisoners of war? Shouldn't they be tried by the military? Have we lost our minds? Why should they have the trial with our civil laws? They are not citizens of the U.S. They have no rights under our Constitution. They should be tried under military law. We have released more of them to go home and turn around and attack us again. Here is example of war. If the enemy has 10 people and we have 10 people, the likelihood of us winning is 50-50 but it they have 10 people and we have 20 people, the likelihood of us winning is greater. The generals asked for 40,000 troops. Obama let our boys down by only sending 30,000 troops. Now he's turning loose prisoners to help reinforce the other side. What a mistake.

Medical costs

I agree with Rush Limbaugh 100 percent that there's probably no better health care in the world than what we have here in the United States. I also agree with him that anyone who goes to the hospital as he did after calling 911 would receive just as good care as he received. It's not the care that we get that Congress is trying to control. It's the cost. Limbaugh can pay whatever cost with no sweat. Mr. No Job may not be able to pay.
