"DUB" Suedekum's letter to the editor about the recognition of the 1954 state champion Central High School basketball team was heartwarming and brought back many memories, all of them positive.
GOVERNOR Nixon says that state universities should cut administrative staff and overhead in order to meet budget cuts in higher education. Yet President Dobbins says he's going to cut programs. Clearly Dobbins is not listening to the governor. In Indiana, Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels made universities cut administrative bloat. Campuses that had the largest increase in administrative labor costs had to cut the most.
FRANK Deford, George Plimpton, Dick Schapp, Bud Collins, Buzz Bissinger, Peter Gammons and Jane Leavy are just a few of those recognized as among America's greatest sports writers. One of those not yet recognized as on par with those listed writes for the Southeast Missourian. I consider his writing top notch and have no doubt that one day the list of America's great sports journalists will include the currently unheralded and underappreciated John Unterreiner.
THE driving force behind the Cape Girardeau School District's dress code proposal is to give a much-needed boost to the local economy by more or less requiring increased consumer spending in order to be able to purchase clothing necessary to conform to the code. In that sense, it's a great idea.
