I want to give thanks for the Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau. This is the best organization I have ever seen. I am in the health-care field and they have helped me help my clients over the years with food, shoes, eye glasses, bread, coats, etc. You can go there for a holiday or regular dinner. If you are homeless or need a place to stay, they will put you in a hotel a night or two. They will help you with clothing and furniture if you have a fire, etc. They also help with a prescription if you are in need. My hat goes off to you, Salvation Army. You are the best. My only regret is we need another Salvation Army thrift store in a good location in Cape Girardeau.
Why is the stock market going down? Not hard to figure out. Republicans are taking control of both the Congress and Senate. The people remember what happened under George Bush's leadership. They will do more harm to America under their leadership just as Bush did.
It was five years ago when Commissioner Jay Purcell first presented his idea of consolidating county facilities to save us money. His idea was to combine offices that are currently duplicated in both cities and save the citizens hundreds of thousands of dollars annually in reduced manpower and maintenance costs. The current county commissioners want to tear down perfectly good buildings and raise our taxes to build a $25 million courthouse with a parking garage. Maybe we need to remind these guys this is Cape County and not Washington, D.C.
I'm tempted to vote for whomever the Republican nominee for president might be, if only to lead columnist Mike Jensen to quit writing that the American people are no longer stupid and have suddenly regained common sense and collective wisdom.
