Big government

PRESIDENT Gerald Ford once said, "A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have."

A good heart

TRY listening to what Rush Limbaugh says instead of relying on liberal interpreters. The man has a good heart. He said he wasn't going to give to particular associations. He said was going to give to people he knew would make sure those people got what they needed, not the government of Haiti.

Spend less

IT is time to get our federal house in order. We cannot continue spending more money than we bring in with taxes. And we cannot increase taxes during unemployment. We must tell our government to balance the budget and do it by decreasing spending. It is the only way out of this mess. We needed change from the Bush administration, but the change we needed was less government. President Obama is spending three times more money when we need to spend less.

DR. Byron Glenn's answer to Martin Luther King Jr. Day was right on the money. That is the truth that so many don't want to live by. The days of the 1960s are long gone. We would have a better world if everyone would believe the same as Dr. Glenn does. I do.

Robertson's myth

THE Rev. Pat Robertson recently regurgitated a myth that Haiti's horrible earthquake resulted from a pact Haitians made with the devil, incurring God's wrath. That a person of Robertson's stature would give credence to such an untruth is criminal.

Food stamp odds

STOP criticizing those who are on food stamps. The chance that a child in the U.S. will be on food stamps at some point during his or her upbringing is one out of two.

More for athletics

SOUTHEAST Missouri State University has its priorities messed up. It's cutting the academic program by $2 million and the athletic program by about $200,000. If the university is ever going to gain more national recognition, it is obvious to me that the athletic program needs improvement and that the board of regents should have compensated for this by making deeper cuts in the academic program.
