Flip through this issue of SE Live and you'll find a few things are missing. We've gone bare bones this issue in preparation for next week's thriller of a magazine devoted to the one, the only, the River City Music Festival. This week's issue still has the highlights. We've included the essentials — a full calendar, the movie listings, some quick info about auditions and other dates and events you should probably be aware of...

This week's issue still has the highlights. We've included the essentials — a full calendar, the movie listings, some quick info about auditions and other dates and events you should probably be aware of.

But we had to devote time and money to greater things. Things you have to wait for. The City of Roses Music Heritage Association is a not-for-profit (ie: low on funds). They use the bulk of the money they raise or receive for scholarships to local musicians and for grants to local school music programs. As a help to them and a service to you, the Sept. 25 issue of SE Live will be wall-to-wall River City Music Festival, along with the normal elements. It'll be a fat one.

But for now, flip through this abbreviated issue and enjoy. Take the extra time to look around our website for new entertainment news, entertaining blogs (I recommend Heather Collier and Katherine Webster's Blogarazzi where they review and ridicule the goings on in what is truly Hollyweird) or flip through our photo galleries. You can order photos from the Styx concert so you'll always have a momento.

If you want to get out of the house, might I recommend a stroll in the park or a visit to Port Cape Sunday or Monday where the River City Players Group is holding auditions for its next play, details on page 11.

One talented and seasoned artist and teacher, Judy Westrich, has opened registration for her fall art workshops. Don't worry, these won't be graded. The next workshop will be an "Experimentation with Acrylics" from Sept. 22 through 30. The workshops meet at The Artist Studio on Main Street from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays. Call 651-4464 to talk to Judy about it.

I've never seen a bad piece from Judy's students, so you're bound to come away proud, and the only requirement is a "willingness to take time for creative pleasure."

Have fun, and I'll meet you back here next week with a lot more info.
