As of May 4 this year, nationally 67 law enforcement officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. This is almost a 20 percent increase over 2010 statistics. Also, recent events remind us all of the deadliest day in law enforcement history when 72 officers were killed responding to terrorist attacks against the United States of America on Sept. 11, 2001...

As of May 4 this year, nationally 67 law enforcement officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. This is almost a 20 percent increase over 2010 statistics. Also, recent events remind us all of the deadliest day in law enforcement history when 72 officers were killed responding to terrorist attacks against the United States of America on Sept. 11, 2001.

May 13 at 10 a.m. at the Cape County Park Conservation Campus, our SALT Advisory Council will honor the 47 police officers from our own area who have given their life in the line of duty. (We have records going back to 1875, and solicit your help if you have any knowledge of an officer we may have missed.)
