The suggestion has made to use land the city acquired in the flood buyout in the Red Star district. It would offer a river view and wide open spaces.

Under flood guidelines, the city can't construct buildings or other permanent structures on the property that could be damaged by future flooding. But it wouldn't prevent parking a RV on the land.

The nearest site with RV hookups is in East Cape Girardeau and Trail of Tears State Park. The nearest full-service hookups are in Perryville.

It might be a good use for the land in the Red Star area as long as the city notified RV users when the waters were rising.

Access to the downtown property by these large vehicles might be another consideration. There is quite a sharp turn on Highway 177 from the downtown area.

Traveling with RVs has become quite popular, and establishing a local park would help promote out-of-town visitors. It is certainly an issue worthy of further study.
