In response to John Piepho's letter, Dec. 6 edition. The Electoral College Provision (Article II, section I) was written in 1787 and ratified in 1791. It is the law of the land. You are correct that the founders were worried about major population centers, mainly on the east and left coasts today, choosing a leader for all the people in flyover country today. They never would have dreamed that today's politicians would be buying votes with tax money either. What you propose is "Mob Rule," two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for supper. This should never be allowed to happen.

Democrats are the minority in this country, state by state. They solely control five state legislatures out of 50. They have been decimated in the last three mid-term elections all the way down to dog catcher because of what they stand for; it has been soundingly rejected. While Obama was campaigning for Hillary, he said this election was a referendum on his legacy; it was rejected. This is why in their infinite wisdom the Founders gave us the Electoral College.

As far as American Exceptionalism, it will always exist as long as the Constitution is protected. Our Divinely inspired Document is the only Constitution in the history of man that specifically limits the government what it can and can't do, not the citizen. We are still the Shining City on the hill as Reagan so often referred to America as, specifically because of our founding documents.
