This is an exciting time of year for many high school students. A photo on the Sotheast Missourian's March 28 neXt page showed students having fun at the Oran prom. Graduation will follow the prom. This is a milestone achievement for students, and we offer an early congratulations to all.

While these spring events are worth celebrating, we remind students to use good judgment, avoid alcohol consumption and to not drink and drive or ride with someone whose driving is impaired. It's also important that parents take an active role and not allow alcohol at any of these end-of-the-year functions.

On Tuesday, students at Notre Dame Regional High School saw an outdoor docudrama of a drunken-driving fatality. Students portrayed the victims and members of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Cape Girardeau Police Department and Cape County Private Ambulance Service were also involved. A photo from the event can be seen on today's neXt page. Hats off to the school and those involved for giving students an important visual reminder at this time of year.

Again, congratulations to all the students and we hope you have a fun and safe time at these upcoming events.
