Most of us agree that we need government, even if parts are flawed. But if given the choice, would we all pay our taxes? No! I think similar statements can be made about labor unions.
Like parts of government, some unions have been flawed, but unions in general have served workers well. If you don't believe it, compare salaries and benefits in union and non-union jobs. However, if given the choice, would all union members pay their dues? No! And that's why the right to work effort is pushed. It would make paying union dues optional.
Make taxes optional and you weaken government. Make union dues optional and you weaken unions. Right to work is not about workers' rights. It's about weakening unions.
We may pay more for union-made products, but we pay more taxes to supplement the salaries of non-union workers. If you don't believe it, ask a minimum-wage worker.
I'm a candidate for state representative, and I believe that if the majority of workers at a workplace vote to have a union, all workers should pay the dues. That's how democracy works in government. If the majority votes for a new tax, we must all pay the tax.
