The competition is heating up for several Southeast Missouri teams.

The Cape Girardeau Central High School football team beat De Soto on Wednesday for its first playoff win since 2002. Central, now at 10-1, has had a remarkable regular season and is moving on to rematch its only defeat against undefeated Sikeston, there, at 7 p.m. Monday.

The Notre Dame boy's soccer team celebrated its Class 2 District 1 soccer championship Tuesday night. Also moving on in the soccer playoffs is the Saxony Lutheran team, which won the Class 1 District 1 boys soccer title Monday. Both teams will play their respective sectional games on Nov. 9.

The Notre Dame girls volleyball team will compete in the final four state tournament this weekend in Kansas City.

While the Notre Dame girls softball season has ended, the team had a great run making it to the final four tournament.

The Southeast Missouri State University football team moved up to No. 9 in the two major football polls this week. Southeast would move a step closer to a playoff birth for the first time since moving to Division I-AA with a win over Southwest Baptist on Saturday. Saturday's 1 p.m. game will be the Redhawks final regular season home game this season.
