To the editor:Neighborhood Connection held its third annual picnic Oct. 13 at May Greene Park. It was a beautiful day, and the 200 people and animals who attended had a great time, thanks to so many people who donated their time, refreshments and equipment.
Bob Camp and his family (four generations) and friends played for the crowd during the picnic. Old Hickory Pits brought a cooking grill (quite awesome). Hot dogs were cooked by Gerald Jones. Broussard's had many delicious dishes from the restaurant. Port Cape Girardeau also brought many great dishes. The Corner Grocery brought its fun bubble machine. Helene Towner painted kids' and adults' faces. Broadway Books & Roasting Co. had many delicious coffees.
Bluff City Brewing made a great sign. Family Counseling Center, Community Counseling Center, Trinity Lutheran Church and Old Town Cape had tables set up with information.
Cpl. Ike Hammond with the police department drove the DARE car. And the fire department sent a fire truck. The mayor arrived on his Harley (the crowd loved that), and members of the city council and city manager Doug Leslie attended.
Many businesses sent gift certificates and donated items: Save-A-Lot, Fred's, Grace Cafe, Wille's Bakery, Buckner Brewing Co., Global Cafe and Bella Italia.
As always, the Southeast Missourian did a wonderful job in getting the word out. Thanks, Chris Pagano.
Many thanks again to everyone who helped make this event so special.
JOAN JONES, Cape Girardeau
