Regarding the comments by a Perry County School Board member: There is no place for those types of comments in a civil society, and people who make such comments should not be in public service.
It is not a matter of political correctness; it is simple common decency. A large number of students in the Perry County School District are little girls and young ladies. They have a member of the school board who feels, according to the newspaper account, that a women's job is to "lay on her back with her legs splayed in the air." The comment is simply disgusting, and, in my opinion, purely sexual in nature, despite his denial. I would not want my granddaughters anywhere near a school district with someone like that on their board.
Members of the board also wanted those comments to remain unknown to the public. The person who made the comments should resign immediately, or be removed from office as soon as possible through recall. Those who sought to keep those comments from the public and chose not to censure him for his comments when it came to a vote should also depart. The individual represents an element of our society with obvious anger issues toward women, and, in my opinion, is not fit to represent a school district.
