For the first time in my life, I feel America is on the brink of self-destruction. President Bush lives in a world that is out of touch with average American, and his only concern is for the advancement of personal gain for himself and his friends. He is leading this country down a dangerous path and has not leveled with the honest and hard-working taxpayers of this once great nation. America was once the greatest and most respected country in the world. Now we have so many problems at home and abroad that our main foundation of security and freedom and prosperity has been severely damaged. John Kerry may not have all of the answers, but he is needed to turn this sinking ship around and steer us back on course and make this nation great again.

L. KENNEDY, Carbondale, Ill.
