To the editor:
I had the great joy of driving over the new Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge for the first time on Christmas Day. I am still in awe of it. The bridge is not only a work of beauty, it is indeed most spectacular. Only highly skilled minds can be credited for a structure such as that. No amount of praise could ever suffice.
I hold dear the old bridge, since I was so much a part of its dedication. I am happy for having been chosen one of the queens and for being one of the dancers. I cannot forget either the money my father gave to its construction. The dedication for the old bridge will forever be a beautiful memory.
Today, though, my eyes have opened, and I only see in our former bridge an old, rusty, dilapidated structure that now gives the appearance of a worn out toy.
Time does change things, and progress does have a way of moving in. Minds become sharper, and major development occurs, making room for much expansion. That is what gives life its spark. That is what makes life more interesting, exciting and more of a challenge. Time does have much in store. It always will.
