This year marks the 90th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. It's also the 90th anniversary of the League of Women Voters, an organization that is still active here in Cape Girardeau. On Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the League of Women Voters will have a meeting and luncheon at the Cape River Heritage Museum, 538 Independence St. In March (Women's History Month), members of the LWV came to the museum and set up an exhibit commemorating the women's suffrage movement of the early 20th century. You still have time to see the exhibit, and you are welcome to attend the luncheon in September.

You may also want to take a look at the new exhibit on the Golden Troopers marching band. Museum volunteers are busy working on a quilt exhibit that will open in September. There are lots of good reasons to check out the museum these days. You can join the Writers' Group, shop in the gift shop or the Curiosity Shop, participate in a treasure tag sale (Sept. 3, 4 and 6), enjoy a First Friday reception and book signing, or listen to Chief Paul White Eagle talk about Native American family life in a Saturday-morning discussion series. Call the museum at 334-0405. Remember, the Cape River Heritage Museum is "where history happens."
