To the editor:
I speak on behalf of the KRCU 90.9 FM staff and its licensee, Southeast Missouri State University, when I extend a hearty thank you to the 120 on-air and telephone volunteers, 20 businesses and restaurants and almost 300 listeners who responded to the stations first on-air membership campaign April 1-7.
Conducting the campaign from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. each of the seven days, Southeast Public Radio raised $22,000 and garnered 200 new members. Almost half that number telephoned in their renewal of support or upgraded their current support for KRCU.It is particularly exciting to note that listeners in over 20 communities throughout Southeast Missouri telephoned in pledges. While the majority of support came from Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Sikeston, KRCU's programming has created a kinship in these communities too: Scott City, Charleston, Gordonville, Marble Hill, Kelso, Morehouse, Whitewater, Greenville, Canalou, Chaffee, Daisy, Benton, Pocahontas, Patton, Sedgewickville, Piedmont, Dexter and Malden. We also heard from four communities in Illinois: Cairo, Anna, Carbondale and McClure.
There were many exciting moments in the campaign. Perhaps nothing could top the open house on the first day, which featured live music and a pilot for a new weekly jazz show produced by community volunteers that will make its debut at 1 p.m. April 29.
The eloquence of the many on-air speakers who carried the KRCU funding message to our listeners still rings in our ears. We could not have done it without the support of our volunteers.
Look for these membership weeks twice a year in the spring and fall. Our listeners are truly KRCUs most reliable source of income for now and in the future.
