To the editor:
I disagree with Jo Ann Emerson and the Republican Party on doing away with inheritance taxes and their negative thinking on the environment. They should quit telling people what they want to hear and tell them what they ought to hear.
The truth is the Environmental Protection Agency should have been started 100 years ago and with real teeth to punish offenders.
George W. Bush is promising more money to education, Social Security, Medicare, prescription drugs for the elderly, the military and new missile defense. He is promising a tax cut. And he wants to eliminate the inheritance tax.
Cutting taxes and increasing spending is irresponsible. We went down that road with Ronald Reagan in the 1980s.
I'm more concerned about the future of our young people and the condition of the America they will inherit than I am about how many billionaires we leave them. Those decisions are being made today. Do no tarry. It's latter than you think.
