To the Editor:

On Thursday, April 7, you ran a story concerning the Boyd Group and their plans for gambling in the wake of the defeat of Amendment 3. Your story quoted Maunty C. Collins, senior vice president and di rector of operations for the central region for Boyd Gaming. When discussing the likelihood of operating boats at this time Collins said, "We're still allowed to place a riverboat casino here and Kansas City, but it may not be as profitable. The owners would be gambling on financial success."

It appears that the Boyd Group is unwilling to gamble on their own financial success but was willing to spend thousands of dollars to convince the people of Cape Girardeau that gambling is an excellent way for us to put our money at risk. I appreciate Mr. Collins' lesson on the folly of gambling on financial success.
