Dear Editor,
Saturday, April 2, a Cape Girardeau policeman was injured in an accident on Sprigg Street near the Show Me Center.
In the last seven years since the building of the Show Me Center, there have been several wrecks at this intersection.
In my opinion, as well as that of several other people, this intersection where Sprigg, New Madrid and Emerald Streets meet may well be the worst intersection on a main thoroughfare in Cape Girardeau.
People traveling Sprigg Street consistently ignore the speed limit on this stretch, and because of the limited visibility from Emerald and New Madrid getting on and off of Sprigg there is quite a problem.
In addition, during elections, and other events, some people have gotten in the habit of placing signs near the intersection, which further limits visibility.
Some people would blame the Show Me Center, some would blame Spanky's Texaco, but the real problem is the street itself. Because of a hump in Sprigg street, visibility is limited south of the intersection to about thirty or forty yards.
Perhaps, now that someone has again been injured at this intersection the city will do a survey, or at the very least place a stop sign on Sprigg street to halt traffic.
Let us hope that it doesn't take someone dying before a change is made.
