To the editor:
Concerning the student who was having a problem getting student housing:
The assistant director for residence life at Southeast Missouri State University comes across in the story as an especially rude and arrogant person.
In employment situations I am familiar with, persons who are supposed to be serving a select group of people -- in this case, young adults more than 50 miles from home without the physical support of family -- would not abruptly end a conversation with a client unless they either had another job lined up or they were a particular class of employee that was not answerable for their actions.
I think the director of residence life at SEMO needs to counsel his assistants -- and maybe he needs counseling too -- as to how to acquire and retain employees with the necessary skills.
