LETTERS: SPECIAL OLYMPICS SEEKS INDIVIDUALS TO BE ON THE FIELD

To the editor:

Special Olympics Missouri is inviting individuals across the state to "Get Into It." We estimate there are at least 92,000 individuals with mental retardation or other closely related developmental disabilities who do not yet know the benefits of Special Olympics in their lives.

There is no testimony that speaks louder than one from the parent of a Special Olympics athlete: "Special Olympics has helped to define who my daughter is to herself and to others. She knows she is a winner. She has a medal to prove it."

We must get individuals off the couch and onto the playing field. They deserve to be part of an organization that offers self-confidence, achievement and a place to belong.
