LETTERS: JUDGE WHO BOUND BUNDY OVER FOR TRIAL DID NOT PERFORM WEDDING RITE

To the editor:

The Nov. 15 edition of the Missourian carried a front-page story which said I performed the marriage ceremony for Anna Canull and Kenneth Bundy, who is charged with capital murder, among other things.

I signed the arrest warrant for Bundy, and I denied him bail. I signed the search warrants in the investigation. I presided over Bundy's preliminary hearing, and I found probable cause to bind him over for trial on the charge of murder, kidnapping, stealing and armed criminal action. I did not perform a wedding ceremony for Bundy.

One call to the recorder of deeds would have revealed the name of the minister who performed the service. I will not reveal the minister's name, because he does not deserve the gossip and Speak Out calls that your sloppy reporting will no doubt generate. Neither do I.
