To the editor:

As the media reports more and more white collar crimes involving stolen credit cards, stolen identities and the nightmare it represents for the victim, our retail establishments become less and less concerned about it.

Once upon a time clerks (I assume it was store policy) made a point of checking signatures. As time wore on, that was done less frequently. Now the buyer himself can swipe the credit card which authorizes payment. No one ever looks at the card let alone the signature. The retail establishment gets their money no matter what.

I assume this new policy was done for convenience. I, for one, would rather be inconvenienced. Credit card fraud costs all of us a great deal of money.
