To the editor:

I have been watching eagerly and with much interest for further plans for Main Street. My heart leaped with joy when I read in the June 16 Missourian of the progress Old Town Cape, the name selected for the Main Street project, is making.

Without a doubt, under the excellent supervision of Judith Ann Lang the proposed revitalization plan will be carried out 100 percent. I like the name Old Town Cape. It is so appropriate and deserving to be added to the National Register of Historic Places.

It is true that the Main Street approach to revitalization is based on design, organization, promotion and economic construction. We have creative minds and determination among many in our city. The generosity among people has, in most part, been 100 percent. I have full confidence that bit by bit this fine project will be accomplished.

It is my hope also that this fine Main Street program will lead to grants that will aid in revitalization of buildings and protection of historic structures and bring all three areas together.

The survey that was conducted proved so excellent when a majority of the people cited friendliness of salespeople and a safe environment for shopping as real joys downtown. Today, shopping in a large area is indeed frustrating with a fear of violence continuously surrounding everyone.

The downtown area was our first and only real shopping center. It will always be regarded as special to me. I am sure there are others who feel the same.
