Recent letters to the editor that have attempted to defend Mr. Clinton sound as if they could have been written by James Carville himself. They follow the same worn-out pattern of deny and destroy. Deny any accusation, even in the face of credible testimony and evidence, and attempt to destroy the reputations of anyone with the backbone to stand up to the president and to try to find out the truth behind the numerous Clinton scandals. What are the facts that we know.

The fact is that Kenneth Starr has had some success in his numerous investigations. Three convictions have resulted, and 10 guilty pleas all by Clinton friends and associates. The accusation is that the Starr investigation has been too expensive and has taken too long. A true observation, but the fact is that the primary reason for that has been the pattern of evasion, lies and stonewalling by the Clinton White House. Many complain about a rush to judgment at the most recent Lewinskiy scandal. The fact is that it is very difficult not to believe the worst about this president in light of the lengthy history of lies, corruption, blunders and ruined personal lives and careers that has surrounded the Clinton presidency.

If President Clinton has done nothing wrong, why is he hiding behind lawyers and carefully worded press releases? Why not come before the American public and answer each and every question about this scandal and all the other scandals that have clouded this political career? Could it be that Bill Clinton has something to hide.

We now have this president considering a military attack on Iraq. Could this be an attempt to divert attention away from the current scandal? I find it abhorrent to think that this president or any leader for that matter would even consider risking the lives of U.S. servicemen for that purpose. However, in view of his past behavior, I find it quite believable.

Why is it that so many of the liberal persuasion defend this president with such vigor. The truth is that this is not just about Bill Clinton. Thecurrent struggle -- or war, as James Carville calls it is all about ideology. They are defending their politically correct vision of America, an America reshaped by socialist ideals in which big government tells us all how to live our lives and what we should believe in. An America ruled by a liberal elite in which the traditional Judeo-Christian ideals have no place.

We as citizens should and must demand a full accounting of any and all wrongdoing by President Clinton and any public official who has violated the public trust. If evidence is found that Mr. Clinton perjured himself or obstructed justice, he should do what is best for the nation and resign his office.
