LETTERS: DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS DEFENDED FROM CURRENT FASHION OF BASHING

To the editor:

It is fashionable these days to bash Democrats and socially acceptable to claim membership in any party but the Democrats.

A Democrat believes in action for, rather than lip service to, the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity. A Democrat believes that stewardship rather than exploitation is the human role on our planet and both prosperity and sensible conservatism can be achieved as opposed to the unchecked use of resources for the enrichment of the few and the impoverishment of many.

A Democrat believes that upper levels of government should move to change conditions that may be too firmly entrenched to be dealt with by local governments. Democrats enacted laws dealing with child labor, Social Security, Medicare, collective bargaining and minimum wage.

The Democratic Party is the party for the people.
