To the editor:

Southeast Missouri Crime Stoppers Inc. needs help. The recent arrests of two robbery suspects had drained the Crime Stoppers bank account to well below $1,000. We are seeking financial support from the community to help replenish the reward fund.

Crime Stoppers was established as a result of 16 home invasions during 1996. A call to our tip line resulted in the arrest of individuals responsible for these attacks against our elderly citizens. Since that time, 322 calls have been made to the tip line, resulting in 103 arrests. Tipsters receive a reward based on the type of crime reported. As a result of calls to the tip line, $10,150 has been paid out. Calls have been received about crimes in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City and rural areas of Cape Girardeau County.

Crime Stoppers works. But we need the financial support of our communities to make the tip line work. By working together, we can help ensure the safety of our citizens.

Donations can be sent to Southeast Missouri Crime Stoppers Inc., P.O. Box 775, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0775.
