To the editor:
Voters in the Thomas W. Kelly School District in Benton will be asked once again next Tuesday to pass a $4.9 million bond issue for a new high school.
How many times can this issue be put on the ballot before the school board gets the message? On Oct. 15 an ad ran in several newspapers from Builders for Tomorrow that stated a $75,000 house would see a tax increase of $187 a year, and a house valued at $150,000 would have an increase of $374 a year. The following Sunday, the same ad ran, but the figures took a drastic reduction to $106 a year on a $75,000 house and $212 on a $150,000 house.
Which figures are correct? To my knowledge, no corrections have been made in any of these newspapers. What is the taxpayer to believe?
Another interesting fact is the wording on the ballot that says "including without limitation." That phrase sounds and alarm that anything goes if the issue is passed.
Until we get some answers to these questions, the safe bet will be to take the fox out of the henhouse again and vote no.
