I attended the concert last Sunday afternoon of the United States Army Ground Forces Band and all I can say is Bravo! I can't remember when I enjoyed anything more. I have been to many concerts over the years but this one ranks among the very best.

My love of bands and band music began many years ago when I was a small child, too young to go to school. I lived on the main street of Illmo and the high school was two blocks from my house. For band practice, the Illmo High School band would march up and down the streets of Illmo.

I would hear the drums and the music in the distance and run out to see them march by. Sometimes I would run over to the next street to get another glimpse and hopefully hear them play again. I later was a member of the Illmo-Scott City band for eight years starting in the 5th grade and my fondest memories of high school are that of band and band trips.

Last fall, I had the privilege of taking two of my grandchildren to the SEMO Homecoming parade. What a thrill it was for me to see the wonder and excitement on their faces as they experienced a real, live band for the first time.

Thank you, Southeast Missourian and all the other sponsors who made this concert possible. This is the first U.S. Army band concert that I have attended but I know for sure that it will not be the last. It was delightful!
