To the editor:
When we were young and wanted to do something that our friend was allowed to do, how many times did our parents step in and save us by saying, "If your friend told you to jump off of a bridge, would you do it?" This was our parents' attempt to bring us back to reality, think things through and save us from harm.
Recently the House of Representatives passed the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. Now the measure goes to the Senate for approval. President Bush has said he will sign the bill if it is passed. This bill declares that if a pregnant woman is attacked during a crime and the baby dies, the perpetrator can be charged with murder. The bill exempts doctors performing abortions and women even if they cause the death of their baby in utero by any means.
Abortion advocates are fighting this bill because they know that the only way that killing a child can be a right is to claim the thing in the mother's womb is not actually a child. This bill focuses on the baby as a human being, not a thing.
Abortion advocates know that, by keeping the baby in the picture, the Unborn Victims of Violence Act undermines the no-baby illusion behind their agenda.
If you are ready to leave the magic act and return to reality, then contact Sen. Christopher Bond and ask him to support the Unborn Victims of Violence Act when it comes before the Senate.
