The 2014 Leadership Cape class presented five proposals during May's First Friday Coffee. The class believes the projects would add value to this area.
Leadership Cape, a program offered through the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, offers participants an opportunity to hone leadership skills and learn more about the area. Part of the course is a group project. A few past projects include a community calendar, dog park, children's museum and speakers bureau -- with the calendar and speakers bureau having been implemented by this newspaper.
Reporter Amity Shedd wrote about several projects that have come to fruition in a story that appeared in Thursday's edition.
This year's proposals included: Food Truck Fridays, a group of vendors who sell food at a local park; a bicycle share program, a venture that would allow individuals to rent a bicycle at one location and dock it at another; a permanent co-op where homemade food and items would be sold in downtown Cape Girardeau; Safety Town, a concept that promotes safety and could include a miniature city in a local park for children to learn about safety; and a website that would connect prospective volunteers with organizations.
Time will tell if these ideas are implemented. Regardless, working within a team environment helps these leaders become better leaders and learn about the area.
Readers can vote for the project they believe would be the most beneficial in an online poll at semissourian.com/polls.
