There seems to be some confusion with the schedule and location of the Jackson farmers market. In July, several factors moved the market from the courthouse square to the city park. We are currently located in the band shell parking lot, next to shelter No. 5, directly across Independence Street from McCombs Funeral Home.
Initially, the market met in the park on two days, Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Previously, the Saturday market met in the parking lot at the First Presbyterian Church. The vendors thought one location for both days would help solidify our customer base.
But the Saturday market never drew sufficient customers, even at the church, and vendor participation began to wane. Fewer vendors drew fewer customers, and business dwindled to the point that the remaining vendors needed to rethink the validity of a Saturday morning market. It was a difficult decision, but we canceled the Saturday market.
We knew there would be confusion during this time of transition and have worked to get the word out. We're still meeting every Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 7 p.m. with a fine selection of produce and crafts. There is no Saturday market.
The Tuesday market at the park will continue until Oct. 25. Beginning Oct. 29, a totally different craft market will emerge on Saturday mornings, meeting from 9 a.m. until noon in the basement at the First Presbyterian Church. New vendors are welcome. Visit any vendor on Tuesday afternoons or inquire via email to gillard5@charter.net.
