Who says culture is limited to metropolitan regions? Not the several thousand concert-goers who will attend tonight's performance of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra at the Show Me Center. It's part of the President's Concert series that will benefit KRCU, Southeast Missouri State University's National Public Radio station.
More than 100 symphonic musicians will perform tonight. The St. Louis orchestra first performed here in March of 1990, and returned in February of 1991. If past shows are any indications, tonight's concert should prove superb.
Culture isn't that hard to find in Cape Girardeau - and this is certainly a good week to look. In addition to the symphony concert, the newly-named Southeast Missouri Concert Association has kicked off its annual membership drive. The association will bring six top-notch performances to town in the coming year. The group has broadened its membership and appeal - with expanded exchange agreements in Sikeston, Malden and Perryville, and a greater access to university cultural events.
This community concert association has been bringing world-class entertainers to Cape Girardeau for 62 years. Series memberships will be sold this month only from campaign headquarters at 1017 Independence. Tonight's concert and the Southeast Missouri Concert Association are cultural events deserving of your support.
