Hundreds find ways to make a difference

Hundreds of individuals around Southeast Missouri took part in Make a Difference Day last Saturday.

The event, which was created by USA Weekend magazine a dozen years ago, encourages both individuals and organizations to undertake community-based projects that address local problems.

While many of these individuals make a habit of doing something good for their communities, Make a Difference Day puts a spotlight on all the good deeds and projects. Neighbors find ways to help neighbors. Clubs look for community needs that aren't being met. Food pantries get stocked. Scouts get involved in special projects that extend around the world. Students raise money for worthy causes.

All of these efforts not only produce good deeds, they also inspire others to find ways to do something good in the communities where they live.

Those who participate in Make a Difference Day can take a great deal of satisfaction from their efforts and know that they are appreciated and respected.

Congratulations to all who took time from their schedules and gave up part of a beautiful autumn weekend to make this year's Make a Difference Day another winner.
