If you were out and about last Saturday in Cape Girardeau and several other Southeast Missouri communities, there's a good chance you ran into someone in a yellow shirt doing an act of kindness. If you were out and about last Saturday in Cape Girardeau and several other Southeast Missouri communities, there's a good chance you ran into someone in a yellow shirt doing an act of kindness.

As many as 900 people from several churches participated in an event called "40 Days of Community," an outreach program organized by La Croix Church. The event was based on the writings of Rick Warren, author of many Christian books, including "The Purpose-Driven Life."

Eighty projects, ranging from helping elderly residents around the house to painting firehouse walls, were completed in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville, Chaffee and other places.

This was an inspiring program for those who participated, for those who received help and for those who read about it and were once again reminded of how good it is to live in a community with so many caring people.
