Once again, the Empty Bowls Project is raising awareness of hunger while raising money for local hunger-fighting organizations.
More than 800 bowls have been created for this year's project. Last Sunday an Empty Bowls banquet was held at the Salvation Army. Participants purchased bowls for $12 and had a meal of soup. Another Empty Bowls banquet will be Nov. 11 for Southeast Missouri State University students, staff and faculty at Dearmont Hall.
Another fundraiser for Empty Bowls is the silent auction of 30 specially chosen bowls at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. All during the month of October visitors to the arts council have been able to register their bids on the bowls. The bidding ends next Saturday.
Each of the bowls involved in the Empty Bowls Project is unique. No two bowls are alike. Volunteers from the community made the bowls, and other volunteers painted them. The result is a piece of art that is a constant reminder of those whose bowls need to be filled to prevent hunger.
This is a project that has brought hundreds of participants together for a good cause. You can show your support by bidding during the silent auction.
