To the editor:
As a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy located in New London, Conn., I would like to point out that there are five service academies, not four, as your Feb. 17 article on service academies stated.
While the Coast Guard is not a large service, it missions include search and rescue, maritime drug law enforcement, homeland security, aids to navigation, ice breaking, fisheries enforcement, boating safety and many others.
Those of us who have served our country in the Coast Guard, as well as the thousands who have been rescued by them, would appreciate it if you would acknowledge the role of the Coast Guard Academy in the support of our country.
