Children can activate their imaginations with the new house, dental office and farm mural exhibits at the Discovery Playhouse. These are the latest additions to the growing children's museum on Broadway in Cape Girardeau.

Pretending the house is up for sale by Realty Executives, the exhibit allows youngsters to walk through and see mini appliances. The dental office includes a chandelier consisting of toothbrushes, dental information and a chair along with a video about a child's first dental appointment. The mural is by Rosetta Whitten of Cateye Glasses Art Studio. It allows children to use magnet fruits and vegetables to pretend to plant and harvest.

The first floor of the Discovery Playhouse includes one open exhibit space on the first floor, and the second floor will be equipped with heating and air-conditioning with the idea of hosting additional features.

The Discovery Playhouse is a nice addition to the city and its downtown. Children have fun and learn at the same time. We look forward to seeing the museum expand.

According to a story by reporter Ruth Campbell in the July 16 Southeast Missourian, about 25 percent of the museum's Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits have been purchased. The credits can help businesses or individual partners in certain corporations and support a community improvement project. The museum has until December 2015 to sell all the tax credits.

Thank you to those behind the facility who make the exhibits possible. To learn more about supporting the Discovery Playhouse, call the museum at 335-7529.
