A couple of organizations that do good work locally will raise some important funds this week when two separate Kentucky Derby parties are hosted in Cape Girardeau.
The Boas & Bling Kentucky Derby Party is scheduled for 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at The Venue. The party includes giveaways and music, and there will be contests for the Bling Queen and best derby hats. Vendors will have booths set up. Money raised benefits the Lutheran Family and Children's Services Foundation.
For more information or to purchase tickets, call 334-5866. You also can go by the office at 3178 Blattner Drive.
On Saturday supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri will be dressed to the nines with festive suits, dresses and hats. The fundraiser is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at The Glenn House, 325 Spanish St.
In addition to raising money, Big Brothers Big Sisters will recognize supporters Scott and Samantha Rhodes with the Promise Award. It's also the centennial year for the area agency.

We wish both organizations well as they host not-to-be-missed events and raise money that helps provide services in our communities.
Make sure to watch for photos from both events in the Southeast Missourian this week and online at semissourian.com.
